Recently, across the country, UAW higher education workers have organized town halls with members of Congress, university administrators, thousands of unionized researchers, and community supporters to speak out about the devastating impacts of funding cuts and demand increased federal funding for scientific research in the 2026 federal budget. At these town halls, UAW researchers have sought to educate elected officials and members of the public about how their research in medicine, technology, public health, climate, wildfire prevention, society, and much more improves lives and the common good. They have also demonstrated that, as unionized researchers, they are taking collective action to urge all stakeholders including university administrators and members of Congress – regardless of party – to fight President Trump’s proposed budget.
